Citizenship by Investment in Saint Kitts and Nevis: Important Update from the CBI Unit

News Details

Positive Amendment on the Definition of Dependents

The Citizenship by Investment Unit of Saint Kitts and Nevis has issued a Pre-Enactment Notice regarding proposed amendments to the definition of dependents in the 2024 Citizenship by Investment Regulations.

What is the current definition of dependents?

Currently, the definition includes:

  • Children under 18 years of age.
  • Children aged 18 to 25 if they are full-time students and financially dependent on the main applicant.
  • Children over 18 in the case of physical or mental disability.
  • Spouse/parents of the main applicant or of the spouse if over 55 years old and fully dependent on the applicant.

What are the proposed amendments?

To enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of the program, the Unit proposes:

  1. Raising the maximum age limit for dependent children from 25 to 30 years, provided the application is submitted before they reach 30.
  2. Eliminating the full-time study requirement for adult children, keeping only proof of financial dependence on the main applicant (e.g., bank statements or official declarations).

New definition of dependent under the Citizenship by Investment Program

“Son/daughter between 18 and 30 years old, unmarried, and substantially dependent on the main applicant.”

Why is this update important?

  • This update makes the Saint Kitts and Nevis program more flexible compared to other regional programs.
  • It offers greater opportunities for families wishing to include their older children in the application.
  • It reflects the Unit’s commitment to keeping pace with market developments while maintaining integrity and transparency.
