Postponing the Implementation of the (ETIAS) System until 2025

News Details

According to Etias.com, the implementation of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), which was initially scheduled to be launched in the beginning of 2021, will be postponed to 2025. This delay comes as result of a set of unexpected challenges facing the European Union, represented by the procedures related to the Olympic games in Paris. The implementation of the system for entering and exiting the European Union was delayed.

Why was ETIAS created?

The (ETIAS) system was created to increase security in the European Union and Schengen countries. The system works to collect information and data related to the travelers, to verify their backgrounds and raise the level of safety for citizens, residents, and travelers in the region, in addition to preventing individuals who pose a security risk or a national threat from entering.

What are the benefits of the ETIAS System?

  • Reduce the procedures associated with visa applications process.
  • Improve the management of borders within the European Union countries.
  • Assist in detecting and reducing crime and terrorism.
  • Deter illegal migration.
  • Enhancement emancipation policy for the visa in the European Union.

The difference between (ETIAS) and Schengen Visa:

ETIAS is not a visa, but rather a travel authorization and differs from a Schengen visa in the following aspects:

  • The ETIAS authorization is not available through consulates or embassies.
  • It does not require providing your (biometric) data, such as fingerprints.
  • The fees for an (ETIAS) authorization are much lower than the fees for a Schengen Visa application (the authorization cost does not exceed 7 euros). Additionally, you do not need to provide any financial information to obtain an ETIAS authorization.
