Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, February 29, 2024 – Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, The Honorable Dr. Terrance Drew, held bilateral discussions with the Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Adel Al-Jubair, on the sidelines of the 46th Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Georgetown, Guyana.
Prime Minister Drew described the engagement as “fruitful,” highlighting the importance of the partnership between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Saudi Arabia, and the range of opportunities this partnership presents. Saint Kitts and Nevis and Saudi Arabia have maintained diplomatic relations since May 29, 2016, and in October 2023, Saint Kitts and Nevis was included in the list of countries eligible for Saudi Arabia’s e-tourist visa or visa on arrival. One of the key discussion points was Saint Kitts and Nevis’s ambition to transform its energy sector towards climate resilience, sustainability, and economic transformation.
Minister Al-Jubair revealed Saudi Arabia’s plans to fund and launch initiatives aimed at enhancing cultural exchanges, including offering scholarships to CARICOM countries. The Saudi Development Fund is currently helping worth $20 million USD for the geothermal energy project in Saint Kitts and Nevis, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustainable investments, both locally and internationally.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Drew stressed the importance of deepening diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia and proposed establishing a diplomatic presence for Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Kingdom, in collaboration with other CARICOM member states, to enhance bilateral relations and assist citizens residing in or near Saudi Arabia. This dialogue represents a significant step towards strengthening the enduring partnership between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Saudi Arabia, heralding a new era of cooperation and mutual prosperity.
