The St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship by Investment Unit has announced an update to the passport issuance process, effective 1 September 2026. Under the new system, passport applications and biometric enrollment will be combined into a single integrated process, rather than being completed through separate procedures as before.
Under the new system, personal information, biometric data, and supporting documents will be compiled into a single file and submitted to the Passport Office. Biometric enrollment will become a mandatory part of the passport application process. Applicants will also be required to upload authenticated documents electronically through the designated online portal, along with the Recommender Form once completed and authenticated.
Fewer Requirements and a More Digital Process
The update removes several previous requirements. Applicants will no longer need to provide printed passport photos, a police report (except in cases of a lost or stolen passport), or passport application stamps. The photograph taken during biometric enrollment will also serve as the official passport photo.
The new system will also allow application status updates to be sent electronically to both the applicant and the agent, including notifications when the passport is ready for collection or, where applicable, the reasons for an application being refused.
What Does the Update Mean for Investors?
For new citizens who have obtained citizenship through investment, the new passport issuance process begins after receiving initial approval, completing the investment and biometric enrollment, and receiving the Certificate of Registration. Supporting documents are then uploaded, and the application is automatically forwarded to the Passport Office.
Existing citizens seeking to renew their passports will follow the same digital process but will also be required to submit their previous passport to the Passport Office.
For those who completed biometric enrollment between 14 April and 31 August 2026, processing of their new passport applications is expected to begin during the week of 7 September 2026, based on the order in which biometric enrollment was completed. The Unit has advised applicants to expect a processing period of approximately 4 to 6 weeks for the printing of new passports during the initial phase due to the backlog of applications.
This update represents another step toward making post-citizenship procedures more digital, reducing the number of paper documents required and consolidating the passport issuance process into a more organized and streamlined pathway for investors.
