Saint Kitts and Nevis and India have announced the formation of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing sports development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the visit of Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Foreign Minister, Dr. Denzil Douglas, to India. This agreement seeks to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations, focusing on empowering young athletes and fostering sports cooperation.
As part of this partnership, sports ministers from both countries discussed future collaboration, emphasizing the importance of establishing a long-term partnership. India’s Minister of Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, stated that both countries face similar developmental challenges, reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting efforts to diversify the economy and create new opportunities for the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Both sides praised India’s contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and expressed their determination to enhance cooperation in various fields. Key areas of collaboration under the MoU include sports training and competitions, providing technical support to coaches, and exchanging programs and youth in various sports disciplines.
The partnership also includes the development of sports sciences, coach training, curriculum development, and the enhancement of sports infrastructure. Additionally, the agreement covers cooperation in sports scientific research, anti-doping programs, and initiatives related to physical education between universities and academic institutions in both countries.
Dr. Denzil Douglas’s visit to India marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two countries, featuring discussions with Indian officials on trade and business issues. Gifts were exchanged as a symbol of this historic visit, with expectations of tangible benefits for both parties.
Dr. Douglas is also scheduled to meet with India’s Foreign Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, to deepen discussions on shared interests and further strengthen bilateral relations between Saint Kitts and Nevis and India.
