Saint Kitts and Nevis Launches New Fourth-Generation Border Management System

News Details

The Prime Minister and Minister of National Security of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, inaugurated the electronic gates system at the Saint Kitts and Nevis airport. The Prime Minister was one of the first people to use the system, describing it as efficient and user-friendly, and noting that it aligns with the government’s vision for a sustainable island nation.

The new system electronically reads the entry application (KNA travel form), facilitates the payment process for obtaining an electronic visa, and features an advanced passenger information (API) dashboard among other systems.

Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew said: “Technological advancement must be a part of creating a sustainable island nation, so I can tell our people here in Saint Kitts and Nevis that we have become more advanced and sustainable.”

Tourism Minister, Hon. Marsha Henderson, who was present to witness the activation and launch of the fourth generation of the border management system, praised the collaborative approach taken by the ministries and relevant agencies, which led to the successful implementation of this project.

She mentioned that the implementation of this system aligns with one of the key goals of the Ministry of Tourism, which is to improve the overall visitor experience.

Minister Henderson said: “We continue our efforts in tourism to ensure we provide an excellent product, this time in partnership with National Security and Immigration, and we are definitely on the right track.”

With the new generation border management system, or automated passport control system, incoming travelers will avoid long queues and manual passport checks by immigration officers. Additionally, the camera-based and pre-approved inspection technology will maintain safe entry protocols into the Caribbean Union.

Initially, the system will serve returning citizens and individuals holding passports from member states of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Passport holders from Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States will be included by the end of March.
