The Saudi Summit Brings Together Saudi Arabia and Caribbean Countries to Enhance Cooperation Across Various Sectors

Today, Riyadh hosts the first Saudi summit with CARICOM countries, aiming to strengthen partnership and open new avenues for cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean, particularly in economic, investment, trade, and tourism fields.

Leaders and delegation heads from participating countries arrived in Riyadh yesterday evening. This included the Prime Ministers of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrence Drew; St. Lucia, Mr. Philip J. Pierre; Antigua and Barbuda, Mr. Gaston Alfonso Browne; Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali; and Suriname, Mr. Chandrika Persad Santokhi.

Also arriving were Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Mr. Andrew Michael Holness; Belize’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, Mr. Johnny Briceño; Haiti’s Prime Minister, Mr. Ariel Henry; and the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Mr. Carla Barnett. They were welcomed by Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Riyadh Region, General Fahd Al-Mutairi, Director of Riyadh Region Police, Fahd Al-Sahil, Director of Royal Ceremonies, Saudi ambassadors to those countries, and heads of honor missions at King Khalid International Airport.

The rest of the Caribbean presidents and delegations are expected to arrive in Riyadh on Thursday morning.

 

The Saudi-Caribbean Summit aims to enhance economic relations, boost investments, increase trade exchange, facilitate commerce, promote tourism cooperation, and enhance trade and investment flows between the two regions.

 

The CARICOM group, celebrating its 30th anniversary, includes 15 countries: St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
