Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, H.E. Xu Maoming, affirmed that the mutual political trust between the two countries will continue to grow and deepen in the coming stage, noting that bilateral cooperation has become a model for relations between China and Caribbean nations.
His remarks came during a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Morne Daniel on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, where Ambassador Xu reviewed the trajectory of bilateral relations and the achievements realized over the past twenty years.
Twenty Years of Strong Bilateral Relations
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Dominica, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in Beijing, setting a strategic vision for developing relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Xu said: “Thanks to the leaders’ diplomacy between both nations, cooperation between China and Dominica has continued to grow steadily, with strengthened high-level exchanges across various fields.”
He praised Dominica’s steadfast position in supporting the “One China” principle, considering this commitment a key contributor to consolidating political trust and strengthening the strategic partnership.
Growing Practical Cooperation in Development and Infrastructure Projects
The Chinese Ambassador confirmed that practical cooperation between the two countries is witnessing increasing growth, noting that the implementation of agreements reached by both leaderships will contribute to supporting economic and social development and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
He added: “We have achieved tangible results in agriculture, education, health, and infrastructure. Among the most notable joint projects progressing at an advanced pace are the new international airport project and the post-hurricane school reconstruction projects, which will soon contribute to enhancing the quality of life for Dominicans.”
Cultural Exchange Strengthening Bridges of Friendship Between the Two Peoples
Ambassador Xu Maoming praised the cultural momentum between China and Dominica, noting that it has become a key pillar in enhancing mutual understanding between the peoples.
He said: “Despite the great geographical distance, China and Dominica have never stopped cultural dialogue. This year, we witnessed traditional Chinese kites flying in the skies of Portsmouth alongside Dominican kites, symbolizing a friendship that crosses continents.”
He noted that Chinese arts such as Kung Fu and traditional cuisine have become part of local cultural events in Dominica, while the Confucius Classroom at Dominica State College continues to teach Chinese language and culture and organize study trips to China to enhance academic and cultural exchange.
Toward a More Connected Future Built on Mutual Trust
The Chinese Ambassador concluded his speech by stressing that China views Dominica as “a promising destination for tourism and cultural cooperation,” expecting an increase in the number of Chinese visitors in the coming years.
He added: “By deepening people-to-people exchanges, the friendship between our two countries will remain strong and renewed across generations.”
